On Saturday 27th January The Abbey will host a mid-table clash between Cambridge United and Burton Albion. Both teams are having similar seasons with periods of very poor form intertwined with strings of positive results. In the end, these strings of games could not save the jobs of Mark Bonner and Dino Maamria. The managerial replacements of Neil Harris and Gary Mills have resulted in an upturn of form for both teams leading to their mid table placements in 14th and 15th come January. These teams further shadow each other in terms of form in the last month, with them both recording three wins, a draw and two losses in their last six fixtures. The reverse fixture saw a characteristic away defeat for the U’s as Burton beat them 2-1. However, Cambridge have made The Abbey somewhat of a fortress when compared to their away form, picking up 24 out of a possible 46 points, making this a completely different fixture.
Team news:
Exciting news for U’s fans as George Thomas nears return from injury. Neil Harris may not want to push him against Burton to prevent a sustained injury but a calculated risk off the bench could prove the difference in this mid table clash.
Harrison Dunk featured in a behind closed doors friendly but is unlikely to return to the matchday squad this weekend.
Scan results are positive for Jack Lankester and he has returned to the grass, hoping to return to full training as soon as possible.
With Gassan Ahadme and Kai Yearn still injured, Cambridge will be hoping for a few signings before deadline day next Thursday - who knows who might make a surprise feature on the bench on Saturday.
